SOAR mission

Our Mission

The mission of SOAR is to determine the needs of the older adults in Routt County and to make every effort to meet those needs with appropriate action.
SOAR vision

Our Vision

• Promote, maintain and improve the health and well-being of older adults through the provision of a nutritionally balanced meal at least three days per week in strategically located sites throughout Routt County.

• To reduce the isolation experienced by many older adults through opportunities for social interaction by participation in the nutrition program.

• To provide nutrition education and supportive service activities in order to enhance the older adult’s ability to remain independent.

• To enable older adults to remain at home as long as possible and facilitate the discharge of older adults from hospitals and care providing facilities.

Our History

In 1972 a group of individuals formed a steering committee to initiate a home-delivered meal program for older adults in Routt County. This committee later formed Routt County Senior Services, which then became Routt County Council on Aging, Inc. (RCCOA). RCCOA’s certificate of incorporation was issued June 13, 1977, and the organization received a non-profit 501(C)(3) designation February 20, 1980.

Since the 1970s, the organization has expanded far beyond its original purpose. We continue to offer home-delivered meals each week across Routt County, from Toponas to Clark and Steamboat Springs to Hayden. In addition, we provide transportation for our clients (older adults aged 60+) to and from meals, medical appointments, and other essential destinations. Our services also include Eat and Greet Lunches — congregate meals served weekdays at Steamboat, Hayden, and Oak Creek locations; Helping Hands home care; regular recreation and social programs; and health-related resources.

Recent Milestones

In 2025, RCCOA publicly announced Building a Stronger Community for Older Adults, our Capital Campaign for a new senior center.

In 2026, the RCCOA Board and Staff voted to change our name to SOAR – Serving Older Adults in Routt. This new name reflects our unique identity as an independent non-profit and encompasses the broad reach of our programs and services. RCCOA will now be doing business as (DBA) SOAR. Our Tax ID will remain the same, 84-0678596.

We aim to meet the needs of older adults in our community.

"SOAR has made a huge, wonderful, good time in my life. It’s made me realize we are loved and taken care of in this wonderful community. And the food is amazing!"

Eva D.

“As a participant and fan of SOAR for 13 years, I have attended activities 2 to 4 times a week. SOAR is a mainstay in my aging years. I made new friends which opened doors to a social aspect for me that I hadn’t explored in my earlier years.”

Karen L.

"Getting connected to your program has really helped. The meals are excellent, I depend on the rides and borrowing the shower chair made a huge difference. I can't tell you how much this means to me."

Doug

"I had a Dr's appointment today. In one year my cholesterol, my blood pressure and my weight have significantly improved. My Dr. took me off diabetes meds and decreased my heart meds. I am on top of the world right now. I attribute this to the wonderful meals from you guys (SOAR) and want to say thank you. God has blessed me."

Martha, Meals on Wheels recipient

"SOAR offers amazing fun programs, helpful information for health and positive, unbiased people caring and giving us their time and joining us in all the activities. Blessings and gratitude to all for making a happy place for aging well."
