Building a Stronger Community for Older Adults
Routt County needs a Senior Center tailored to the needs and services of its older adults. For that reason, SOAR is excited to share our Capital Campaign for a new Senior Center!
There are over 6,090 older adults in Routt County (2020 census), and 1 in 4 people in the county is 60 or older. SOAR services are a lifeline for basic needs and socialization in our community.
To make this all possible, in 2025, we launched a Capital Campaign, Building a Stronger Community for Older Adults. Although our previously desired location did not work out, SOAR is committed to exploring various options to serve our community’s needs for a Senior Center. Recent developments have pivoted the direction of the Capital Campaign. The City of Steamboat Springs is currently developing the “Stockbridge Campus,” which includes the Community Center building and property where SOAR currently operates. A recent article in the Steamboat Pilot & Today emphasized the importance of our input in the planning process—noteworthy is, “The city plans to form an advisory committee to guide the process, with representatives from City Council, CDOT, Routt County, SOAR, the housing authority and the Yampa Valley Community Foundation.” The Board and Capital Campaign committee are pursuing the option of staying where we are with significant additions and renovations to the property.
Our objective is to secure $3,000,000 to finance renovations, purchase equipment, and support other costs related to program expansion. SOAR currently has approximately $1,000,000 in the Capital Campaign fund, held for and restricted to Capital Campaign expenditures.
SOAR is growing rapidly along with the senior population in Routt County. Our meal service has increased by 18% since the summer of 2025 and our transportation service has increased by 18%. Our Helping Helping Hands home care service has increased by 20% in 2025. The Aging Well program has grown to include footcare as well as exercise classes.
- Total Meals Served in 2025: 19,871
- Total Rides Provided in 2025: 2,722
- Approximately 5,600 volunteer hours from 54 volunteers
